METHERM Microporous M 1000 — Fumed Silica Insulation Board, Max 1000°C

METHERM Microporous M 1000 fumed silica microporous insulation board, max 1000°C continuous. Thermal conductivity 0.020 W/(m·K) at 20°C — below still air. Distributed by ThermalEast for steel, aluminum, ceramic, and glass furnace buyers worldwide.

Buyer Brief

METHERM Microporous M 1000 is a fumed silica microporous insulation board rated to 1000°C continuous service. Thermal conductivity of 0.020 W/(m·K) at 20°C — below still air at 0.026 W/(m·K) — is achieved through the Knudsen effect, with pore sizes below 70 nm suppressing gas-phase conduction. Even at 800°C the board reaches only 0.033 W/(m·K), delivering the lowest lambda of any rigid panel in this temperature class at substantially thinner cross-sections than calcium silicate or mineral wool alternatives.

Use Cases

Steel reheat furnace energy retrofit. Replacing calcium silicate or mineral wool cold-face layers with 20–30 mm of M 1000 reduces shell surface temperatures markedly — in a 900°C batch annealing furnace, outer shell temperature drops from ~130°C to below 65°C. The thin panel profile fits within existing shell cavities without structural modification.

Aluminum smelter pot cell insulation. M 1000's near-flat lambda curve — 0.020 W/(m·K) at ambient to only 0.033 at 800°C — maintains consistent insulation performance through charging and tapping cycles in the 650–950°C range, reducing gas consumption and improving metal temperature uniformity.

Ceramic kiln car deck. Fitting M 1000 panels into kiln car decks reduces heat stored in the car structure during firing, shortening cool-down and lowering energy cost per tonne. The board is machinable with standard tools for on-site fitting around support posts.

Glass furnace backup insulation. Glass tank furnaces and forehearths running 800–1000°C use M 1000 behind the refractory hot face to reduce shell heat loss. The thin panel format allows effective backup insulation where conventional thickness is constrained by structural framing.

Why ThermalEast

ThermalEast sources M 1000 directly from the manufacturer with full material certification, third-party thermal conductivity test reports, and export documentation — at direct-mill pricing substantially below equivalent European-sourced microporous panels.
