METHERM Microporous M 1100 — Extended-Temperature Microporous Board, Max 1100°C

METHERM Microporous M 1100 fumed silica microporous insulation board, max 1100°C continuous service. Thermal conductivity 0.020 W/(m·K) at 20°C — below still air. For ceramic kilns, aluminum melting, and high-temperature furnace backup. Distributed by ThermalEast.

Buyer Brief

METHERM Microporous M 1100 extends the maximum continuous service temperature to 1100°C while retaining identical thermal performance to M 1000 — 0.020 W/(m·K) at 20°C and 0.033 at 800°C. The extra 100°C headroom comes from higher-grade ceramic fibre reinforcement and a higher-purity opacifier formulation that maintains IR suppression above 1000°C. For applications firmly below 1000°C, M 1000 remains the cost-appropriate choice.

Use Cases

Ceramic Kiln Hot-Face Backup

High-temperature ceramic sintering — technical ceramics, heavy clay, and specialty refractories — routinely demands peak firing at 1050–1100°C. M 1100 panels behind the hot-face lining deliver predictable thermal resistance across the full firing cycle.

Aluminum Melting Furnace Hot Face

Furnace atmosphere temperatures at the roof and upper sidewall can approach 950–1050°C in some aluminium furnace designs. M 1100 provides the necessary temperature margin for backup insulation in these upper zones with minimal thermal mass.

Glass Furnace Crown Insulation

Float glass furnace crowns operate above M 1000's 1000°C ceiling. M 1100's flat-lambda characteristic ensures insulation calculations remain valid across the full temperature profile from cold startup through steady-state operation.

Steel Reheat Furnace Where Peak Exceeds 1000°C

Continuous reheating and walking-beam furnaces can experience temperature excursions above 1000°C during start-up or overload. M 1100 provides a 100°C safety margin with no penalty in ambient or mid-temperature conductivity.

When to Choose M 1100 vs M 1000

M 1100 and M 1000 share identical thermal conductivity at all measurement points. The sole differentiator is maximum service temperature: 1000°C vs 1100°C. Specify M 1100 when continuous or transient temperatures exceed 1000°C. Specify M 1000 when temperatures are firmly below 1000°C. Specify M 1000 Max when enhanced mechanical robustness is the primary driver.

Why ThermalEast

ThermalEast sources M 1100 directly from the manufacturer at direct-mill pricing — typically 30–50% below equivalent European-sourced microporous panels — with full material certification and export documentation.
